Abstract

Employee dissatisfaction within Nigeria’s transport and logistics regulatory bodies continues to undermine productivity, hinder green logistics initiatives, and constrain sustainable performance due to persistent gaps in policy implementation and organizational practices. This study investigates the role of reward systems as a strategic driver of employee productivity, positioning it as a key catalyst for promoting green logistics adoption and overall sustainability in these agencies. Employing purposive sampling across 10 major regulatory bodies, the survey received responses from 2,899 staff members. However, only 2,836 responses were deemed valid and were subsequently considered for the analysis. Data analysis combined descriptive statistics including means, percentages, and standard deviations with econometric techniques such as Pearson correlation and multiple and logistic regression models. The findings indicate that reward systems (β = 0.609, p<0.05) have a significant positive effect on employee productivity. Moreover, the work environment was found to moderate this relationship, further enhancing sustainable performance outcomes. Based on these results, the study emphasizes the importance of structured and optimized reward programs that recognize outstanding contributions, urging government agencies to implement them to improve productivity, foster green logistics practices, and ensure long-term sustainability within Nigeria’s transport regulatory framework.
